About his Life
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was one of the most influential Jewish Rabbis in modern history. Living from 1920 until his death in 2013, Rav Ovadia Yosef made many strides for the Jewish community and also caused some major controversy that stills runs rounds in media outlets today. Rav Ovadia raised ideas based on the halachic principle that states all Jewish Commandments are nullified if a life is put in danger. For this reason, he was extremely focused on introducing and pushing for peace in Israel and abroad.
Rav Ovadia Yosef was a Talmudic scholar and was an exclusive authority on much of Jewish Religious Law. He wrote many books and new laws in almost every section of Jewish Law. His understanding of the law led to his prestigious stance within the community and worldwide. His ultra-orthodox tendencies led to his leadership of the Shas party. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef also held secret meetings advising the leaders of the Israeli world including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Upon passing, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef had over 1 million loyal disciples mourn him in the streets and publicly in 2013. His funeral was, in fact, one of the largest Jewish funerals in modern history. His influence goes beyond just his teachings, however, as we still see today Jewish art that was inspired by his life and will continue for many years.
